Uvita Costa Rica is a small village just 17-km (11 mi) south of Dominical. It is located on the most southerly part of the Central Pacific Coast and is the last major population center before entering the Osa pensinsula. Uvita is slowly being developed for baby boomers who are going into retirement. It's still a relatively sleepy town but is starting to change. It is near the Parque National Marino Ballena where travelers can view whales during the winter months. Uvita offers some good eating and sleeping options for travelers while they explore the park.

The road from Dominical to Uvita was paved in recent years and this ease-of-movement has caused a influx of developers and realty offices to move to town.

The area along the highway is called Uvita, while the area on the beach is referred to as Playa Uvita. There's an entrance to the beach just south of the bridge over the Rio Uvita and a second entrance in the center of town. It's possible to walk on the beach during low tide, but be aware that the tide rises and beach combers can get cut off during high tide.

Dominical Costa Rica is a surfer's town with sufficient services and amenities for even the fussy travelers. However, the beach is quite dangerous for casual swimmers. But, for those who enjoy pools and awesome views, this is a great place to kick back and relax.
