Surfing Playa Avellana and Playa Negra Costa Rica was made famous in the movie Endless Summer II. Playa Avellana and Playa Negra offer consistent waves and surf breaks. These are very popular beaches with surfers.

Called little Hawaii by the locals, Playa Avellana is a dream travel destination for surfers. The swells can reach as high as 5.5m (18 ft). This long stretch of white sand has beach break barrels at low tide with an open-faced right at medium tide.

The surf break at Playa Negra is a hollow right that barrels, especially with a moderate offshore wind. These spots can be crowded.
