An undeveloped wilderness beach, Playa Grande is a part of the Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas de Guanacaste. There are steep and powerful waves at this famous beach — a dreamy white sandy beach.

Playa Grande has been ranked as one of the top five surf destinations in Costa Rica with perfect left and right peaks. These waves are consistent and fun; they can be better than in Tamarindo. Best conditions at mid-to-high tide with offshore flow.

There's at least one surf camp in Playa Grande and sufficient travel and tourist services to spend a pleasant holiday here but most stay in Tamarindo. Tamarindo is larger and offers more travel services, a greater range of accommodation and there's a more active night life in Tamarindo. You can get to Playa Grande by boat from Tamarindo.
