When it's good, the swells can break for 180m (200 yards). Conditions are usually good with a west sell. Surfing season is from April to October which is rainy season. Some of the dangers include rocks and occasionally sharks.
Two nearby point breaks that are considered excellent are Back Wash and Pan Dulce. Back Wash is an excellent right and is best at low tide with a fast and steep wave. It is rockier than other nearby breaks and can get up to 3m (3.3 yards).
Pan Dulce is also a right and the inside break is great for learning to surf. On the outside of Pan Dulce, the swell is large and can be surfed to shore.
Cabo Matapalo is off the travel and tourist grid and its off the literal grid, as it does not have electricity all of the time. Many places use generators.
