Punta Leona Costa Rica is located just south of Tarcoles on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Punta Leona is a nature reserve and is important to Costa Rica because it's the transition where the dry forests of the northwest and the southwest rainforests meet.
Punta Leona is a quiet travel destination where few tourists visit. It was created about 25 years ago to preserve the flora and fauna unique to this transition zone. It's a private reserve of 300-hectares (750 acres) and is a birding watching paradise.
Punta Leona offers hiking and birding. There's a resort reside on the reserve. Travelers can look forward to viewing birds, monkey , coatis, butterflies and iguanas. The reserve is open to visitors for a small fee, if you aren't staying at the resort.
