Garabito is Costa Rica's chief idigenous hero.

The indigenous people of Costa Rica fought fiercely against the Spanish to protect the Nicoya Gulf and Central Valley. Garabito was famous for his ability to deceive the Spanish.

In the 1500s, the Spanish waged war throughout Central America. They often decapitated tribal leaders. In 1560, the Spanish wanted to capture Barabito and dispatched a military force to do so.

Costa Rica Culture is rich in indigenous heritage. There's also a migration heritage. Many of Costa Rica's minorities have come from other places to help with historical economic needs. Sharing a similar history to North America, there was a migration to build the railway. There was also the import of labor to work on plantations.
