Dominical Costa Rica is located on the central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica south of Jaco. Dominical Costa Rica is a surfer's destination with a laid-back scene. It's major drawback is that it is difficult to access, as the road to Dominical is in poor condition. Dominical Costa Rica is only 40-km (25 mi) from Jaco but the road is in poor condition. It can take several hours to navigate the pot holes and dried-out river beds on this road.

The Dominical beach is 4-km (2.5 mi) long and can get some large waves. Inexperienced surfers should be cautious here. And, swimmers should be aware that the rip tide is strong and can make swimming nearly impossible.

Baru is notable because it is in the biological corridor called the Path of the Tapir.

shoreline

Whale Marine National Park is located south of Uvita and occupies the beachfront and ocean. Whales migrate through these waters from December through March, hence the park's name.

From May to November, the Olive Ridley turtle nests on the beaches of this national park.
