San Jose Costa Rica hotels are abundant and located in a variety of places throughout the city, including the nearby international airport.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Adventure Inn is located in a picturesque mountainous
suburb of San Jose Costa Rica and is only ten minutes from the San Jose International Airport. Adventure Inn offers
free shuttle to the airport and boasts the best value for services in the bed and breakfast industry in San Jose. The travel
reviews from past guests are solid, making this an excellent choice.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Ambassador has 64 rooms,
offers business services, has an event room, restaurant/cafeteria & bar. It's located in the heart of San Jose and has easy access
to San Jose's services and amenities, including cultural tourist attractions.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Ara Macao Inn is in a convenient & safe location on quiet street. The rates are similar to Hotel Colonial starting at US$55/double. I haven't found
travel reviews for this hotel. However, it looks clean and presentable for the price point.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Balmoral is a four star hotel located near the business and financial district of San Jose
Costa Rica. The travel
reviews, however, are a bit middle of the road. It appears to be average but it would be more related to services than to
cleanliness and quality. The Hotel Balmoral offers a number of travel and leisure packages to sights of interest near San Jose and have an extended stay discount rate.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Barcelo Palma Real is located near the Pan American Hwy in San Jose and was refurbished in 2003.
The rates start at US$70/double. The hotel gets mixed travel reviews by former guests but I would recommend that you read between the lines, as
some of these complaints seem a bit unfair for the price point.

reviews for this hotel are solid.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Britannia is an charming hotel with a lovely exterior and clean rooms. There seem to be issues
with online bookings with this hotel and it might be advisable to drive by rather than book in advance. The hotel restaurant doesn't get very good reviews
- Costa Rica Hotels — Cacts This is a budget hotel and provides a reasonable level of
cleanliness and services for the price point. The travel reviews are typically good, however, there are a few complaints that
might be related to unrealistic expectation for price point. There are nine rooms with private bath and four with shared bath.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Colonial is a charming hotel built in a neo-colonial
architectural style. The hotel is reasonably priced hotel in San Jose. The hotel gets some mixed travel reviews but overall it seems to be a pretty good choice
for the price point.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Doubletree Cariari by Hilton is also located near the San Jose airport. It's a lovely resort with beautiful reception area and an outdoor pool. This hotel gets really nice travel reviews by past guests and is a solid choice for the price point.

The hotel has 31 rooms and has been decorated using native artwork. Each room is
uniquely furnished and decorated. Clean and nicely furnished, this hotel gets solid travel reviews.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Gran Hotel Costa Rica has a gourmet restaurant and bar. It also offers an open-air patio. There's live music at night in the piano bar. The architecture is from the 1930s which makes it charming. The rooms have the classic 1930s tubs. Rates are reasonable.

fabulous travel reviews.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Pacande is a charming hotel that gets solid travel reviews from past guests. There are reviews that warn of noise. Bring your ear plugs, just in case.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Presidente is a beautiful hotel with lovely rooms and quality beds and bedding. The travel
reviews from past guests are excellent. The junior and grand spa suites are lovely.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Ramada in Herradura near the airport offers a golf and country club, spa and conference center. There are also three
restaurants on site. The hotel has 229 rooms of varying sizes, including executive suites. The travel reviews for this hotel are solid.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Rincon de San Jose is a three star hotel with 42 rooms and is located in downtown San Jose and offers
quality business and hotel services including laundry. Hotel Rincon gets solid
travel reviews from past guests. The hotel is charming and includes features like native hardwood doors and elegant decor.

financial district of San Jose. It's close to downtown. The rooms are simple and clean with a
good list of amenities.
The travel reviews are quite good
but there are a couple complaints about the staff being disorganized.

street and has 92 rooms with charming wood furnishings. The hotel has a nice courtyard with outdoor pool.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Trapp Family Country Inn in Alajuela
is only 1.6-km (1 mi) from San Jose's airport. The hotel is comfortable and offers a lovely outdoor pool.
It has a lovely swimming pool and well appointed rooms. The hotel
gets very good travel reviews at tripadvisor.

reviews for this hotel are mixed. I suspect, again, budget vs. expectation can be an issue at this price point.

The hotel gets good travel reviews but there are some complaints that the rooms are dated.

Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica has numerous quality hotels targed at a variety of budgets.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Observatory Lodge gives visitors the opportunity to stay on a ridge about
1.7 miles from the volcano. It's a close as you can get to an eruption and you'll be watching lava flows
from this location. The travel reviews for the lodge are solid. Rates start at US$77.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Paraiso has 118 rooms, spa, restaurant, thermal waters, 14 pools,
wet bar, saunas and more. This hotel gets solid travel reviews and rates start at US$89/double.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Lodge is a reasonably priced hotel built on 2,000 acres of land. It's a little off-
the-beaten-path, so if you are looking for convenience, this isn't the place. But, it offers
a plethora of outdoor activities. Prices start at US$78/double.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Vista Lodge offers 25 units at reasonable rates and
has an awesome view of Arenal Volcano. This is not a North American-style resort
but a lodging targeted at locals. The lodge gets mixed travel reviews. But, it
has reasonable rates starting at US$88/double. I feel the travel
reviews/expectations are a bit harsh for this price point.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Volcano Inn is located in La Fortuna and boasts a great view of Arenal Volcano.
The hotel has a restaurant, pool, spa and immaculate gardens.
The rooms are moderately priced starting at US$90. This hotel gets great travel reviews.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Casa Luna Lodge is located in La Fortuna and has 36 units. It
offers comfortable rooms at reasonable rates and gets great travel reviews.

- Costa Rica Hotels — Arenal Kioro has 42 room and 11 suites with an
outstanding view. All the rooms are beautifully appointed. The hotel has a spa,
hot springs, restaurant and conference facilities. This hotel gets excellent

guests and has been identified as a fabulous mountainous retreat. The lodging is

Monteverde Costa Rica hotels are abundant with a variety of styles, amenities and services.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Cloud Forest Lodge is located on a hillside and offers bungalow-style cabins with
private bath, hot water, patio and a tranquil setting. This lodge gets solid travel reviews and is moderately
priced.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Ecolodge San Luis offers cabins and bungalows at Monteverde research station. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed.
There are also comfortable bungalows located closer to the dining hall. These lodgings give
travelers the opportunity to experience a unique ecological and cultural environment.
- Costa Rica Hotels — El Establo Mountain is a luxurious resort composed of 155 rooms on 150 acres of farm land. This Quaker-run
hotel offers two restaurants, spa, gym, two swimming pools, two bars, a conference center, and courts to play sports. This
hotel gets solid travel reviews from former patrons.
- Monteverde Cloud Forest Hotels — Aco Iris Lodge is a moderately priced lodge offering cabins and budget rooms -e.g. dormitory. The
cabins are one- or two- bedroom with rates starting at US$60.

on the side of a hill providing beautiful views. Rates start at US$99/double.

This hotel gets good travel reviews.

with heated swimming pool and lovely gardens. The rates are moderate, although the hotel receives mixed reviews from travelers.
- Costa Rica Hotels — El Sapo Dorado has cozy cabins that are nicely appointed and built of hardwood. The rates start
at US$125. El Sapo Dorado gets good reviews, although those who need a tv and heat should consider other accommodation
options.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Finca Valverde's Monteverde is a hotel that is located on a farm. This farm produces coffee for export
and vegetables for the hotel. the hotel has 20 rooms and cabins in a peaceful location. The recent reviews show a bit of dissatisfaction, but
past reviews were solid and is still worth a look.

- Costa Rica Hotels — Jardines de Monteverde was opened in 2004 and is a large older home that has been
converted into a hotel. It boasts a view of the valley and the Pacific Ocean. This hotel gets nice travel reviews and is reasonably priced.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Los Cipreses Hotel is located a few minute from downtown Santa Elena. The hotel has 20 basic rooms
and a restaurant. The grounds are lovely, the travel reviews are solid and the rates are reasonable.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Los Pinos Cabanas are reasonably priced cabins that are secluded and private. The cabins are made of
local hardwood and have a charming ambiance. Each cabins has a kitchenette and dining room. Rates start at US$65
- Costa Rica Hotels — Rancho Makena is a small country hotel comprised of cabins and a lodge. There are three cabins
with two floors. Each floor contains a unit. These are made of solid local hardwood. The rates at Rancho Makena are
moderate and there's good value for money here.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Trapp Family Lodge is a 20-room inn located about 15 minutes, on foot, from the Monteverde Reserve.
The lodge is an older-style wood building with a warm feel. The view are fabulous and the hospitality is warm and friendly.

Nicoya Peninsula Hotels
Tamarindo Costa Rica hotels come in a variety of styles including resorts, hotels, and smaller cozier inns and bed and breakfasts.
Tamarindo Costa Rica is located on the Pacific Coast and is only 45 minutes from the international airport in Liberia, Guanacaste. This popular surf destination has numerous quality hotels:
- Costa Rica Hotels — Barcelo Playa Langosta is located on Playa Langosta which is on the outskirts of Tamarindo. The beach is lovely and the all-inclusive hotel offers resort-style services. This hotel gets solid travel reviews. Rates start at US$265.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Flamingo Beach Resort is located on Playa Flamingo and is a beachfront resort. This is a quality property with solid travel reviews. Rates start at US$125.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Flamingo Marina Resort is located about 30m above Playa Flamingo and about 300m from the beach. The Flamingo Marina Resort gets mixed travel reviews but closer examination produces a split between generations. The baby boomer population loves this resort, while younger folk prefer something closer to town which offers more amenities and services.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Capitan Suizo is conveniently located in Tamarindo and offers 22 rooms, seven bungalows and a four-bedroom suite. The hotel gets solid travel reviews and the rates start at US$190.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel El Jardin del Eden is a 36-room ocean view property located in Tamarindo. Historically, this hotel got solid travel reviews but recently there are a few complaints. Best to read these as it appears to be a value for money issue. Rates start at US$135.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Estela de Fuego is located overlooking Playa Flamingo which is just outside of Tamarindo. The hotel is located on a hill side and has fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean. The travel reviews for this hotel are solid and the rates make it appealing.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Luna Llena is an Italian-style lodging located in Tamarindo. It offers hotel-style rooms and bungalows. There are some mixed travel reviews on this hotel but the rates are reasonable so it's worth considering. Reading the reviews might help clarify what some of the issues might be. Rates start at US$90/double and US$99/double for a bungalow.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Sugar Beach is located on Playa Pan de Azucar which belongs to the Gold Coast (fabulous beaches) in Guanacaste. Hotel Sugar Beach gets solid travel reviews from past guests. Rates start at US$125.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Tropicana is a moderately priced hotel in Costa Rica with 44 rooms, pool, Jacuzzi and gym. The travel reviews suggest that the hotel is basic and there are mixed reviews about the value for money.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Hotel Villa Baula is located in the National Marine Park called Las Baulas de Guanacaste. The Leatherback turtle nests here and if you're interested in staying near the nesting grounds, this hotel might be an option. This lodging is rustic but clean.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Iguana Azul is located about 35-km south of Tamarindo in Playa Junquillal. There's a white-sand beach here and great views. Surf and snorkel are terrific. The rates start at US$70.

- Costa Rica Hotels — Laguna del Cocodrilo is a reasonably-priced hotel across from the Best Western in Tamarindo and is located on the beach. Rates start at US$60. This hotel gets decent travel reviews. However, be cautious of booking a room located by the bar/restaurant.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Rip Jack Inn is located on Playa Grande which is just north of Tamarindo on a beach where the Leatherback turtle comes to nest. This hotel gets great travel reviews and is good value for money. The rates start at US$105.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Tamarindo Vista Villas is a hotel and lodging in Tamarindo that offers 12 rooms and 17 villas. The accommodation come fully equipped with kitchen necessities and offer the amenities found in a hotel. Rates start at US$120
- Costa Rica Hotels — Villa Alegre Bed and Breakfast is a beachfront property built in a Spanish-villa style. Villa Alegre gets excellent travel reviews with comments like "comfy, cozy and steps from the beach". Rates start at US$170/double.
Playa Grande Costa Rica hotels are more rustic than in neighboring Tamarindo. For those looking for a unique experience, this would make a great vacation destination.
Playa Grande is only minutes from Tamarindo Costa Rica and makes a great

Playa Negra Costa Rica hotels are equipped with the basic to ensure that surfers enjoy this destination.
Playa Negra is a surf destination with a number of hotels targeted at surfers.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Las Avellanas Villas has five fully equipped villas surrounded by gardens. The units offer terraces,
surfboard racks and have integrated nature into the design concept.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Las Olas Cabins is a pleasant hotel offering ten cabins with orthopedic beds, ceiling fan,
private bath with hot water, terrace, hammock and a safety box.
- Costa Rica Hotels — Mono Congo Lodge is an open air tree house built from Central American hardwood. The rooms

Nosara Costa Rica hotels are seemingly abundant for such a small destination. There's also lots of quality and value in Nosara.
Nosara Costa Rica is a fabulous lesser-known vacation destination on the Pacific coast. This town is a favorite with the expats and, as a result, there are numerous tourist services and accommodations.
- 1. Costa Rica Hotels — Lagarta Lodge is on a hillside
in Nosara about 40m above sea level and has terrific views of the ocean, mountains and river. The beach is a 10-minute walk.
The hotel has a restaurant, bar and pool. The rates start at US$80/double.
- 2. Costa Rica Hotels — Bella Vista Mar is a property offering several kinds of accommodation including rooms in a main house, two separate guest houses and the owner is able to arrange for other nearby
accommodations. Amenities include a pool, breakfast (extra) and in-house spa services. The rates start at US$60/double. Weekly rates
are offered at a discount.
- 3. Costa Rica Hotels — Villa Mango B & B offers rooms with private bath and some with air conditioning. There's a terrific view of the ocean, beach and natural reserve. There's also a pool for guest use. Rates start at US$80/double and includes breakfast.
